Las Cruces, NM – Cameron Saffell, Curator of History and Oral History Program Director at the NM Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, will be guest speaker at the July 8, 2010 “History Notes” series at the Branigan Cultural Center. The topic is the Bracero Program, a guest worker agreement between the United States and Mexico that existed for twenty two years.
The exhibit “Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program 1942-1964” remains on display at the Cultural Center through July 24, 2010. “Bittersweet Harvest” is a traveling exhibit from Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibits. Funding is made possible through the Smithsonian’s Latino Center, which celebrates Latino culture, spirit and achievement in America by facilitating the development of exhibitions, research, collections and education programs. "History Notes” are informal discussions focusing on local and regional history on the second Thursday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Cultural Center. The programs are free and open to the public, no registration is required.
The Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main Street, is located at the north end of the Downtown Mall in Las Cruces. The exhibits and events are free and open to the public.
