Las Cruces, NM –The Butterfield Overland Mail is the focus of the April 8, 2010 “History Notes” program at Branigan Cultural Center. Author and historian George Hackler will be the guest speaker. Hackler has personally visited each of the sixteen Butterfield stations in New Mexico. He has coordinated contemporary field surveys of the stations and compared them to those made by historians in the 1930s. His research resulted in publication of The Butterfield Trail in New Mexico in 2005.
"History Notes” are informal discussions focusing on local and regional history on the second Thursday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Branigan Cultural Center. The programs are free and open to the public, no registration is required.
The Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main Street, is located at the north end of the Downtown Mall in Las Cruces. Exhibits are free and open to the public.
