Hayagriva Study Circle presents its 32nd course, this time in Historical Archaeology of South India. It will be conducted by historian and archaeologist S. Suresh. The course will provide an insight into the past. The course covers introduction and definition of historical archaeology; architectural developments; epigraphy or the development of scripts; deciphering scripts; coins — evolution of coinage; analysis of coins as art objects, archaeology of trade, early history; tracing trade; commodities; Rome-India contacts; link with medieval period restoration and conservation, with the case study of the restoration of the Big Temple in Tanjavur; and field trip to Kanchipuram.
