historic district of Waynesboro
Waynesboro, Georgia

Spend the day in beautiful, historic Waynesboro with the Burkeland Garden Club and tour the homes and gardens of several local residents. There are six private historic homes and gardens on the tour, plus St. Michaels Episcopal Church and Burkeland Garden. All the tour locations are within the Waynesboro Historic District, recently named to the Georgia Register of Historic Places, and on its way to be named to the National Register of Historic Places in May 2009.

Pilgrimage hours are Saturday, May 2nd from 10:00-5:00. The annual pilgrimage is sponsored by the Garden Club of Georgia and the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in cooperation with the Waynesboro Burkeland Garden Club.

Tickets are $25 (or $20 for group rates of 12 or more). Lunch can be ordered in advance for an additional $10. (See website to download the advanced ticket order form.) Lunch will be served by members of the United Methodist Church in the Hagood House, a Waynesboro historic landmark. Built in the early 1900s by Major William Archibald Wilkins, the home remains one of the most interesting examples of architecture in the city.

On May 2nd, Tour Information Headquarters will be at the Southern Bank Pavilion, 855 Liberty Street (which is also US Route 25-121). Headquarters will open at 9:30 am and remain open until 4:00 pm.

Rain or shine, we look forward to welcoming you to Waynesboro this May.
