Hiram College’s departments of theatre and music are joining forces this year to present “Victorian Holiday” with evening performances on Friday, December 11, and Saturday, December 12. “Victorian Holiday” features music and hors d’oeuvres followed by a performance of Christopher Durang’s “Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge.”
Commissioned by City Theatre in Pittsburgh in 2002, “Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge” is a musical parody of Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.” While most characters in Durang’s satire reflect their Dickensian roots, Mrs. Bob Cratchit is an angry and stressed woman whose despair leads her to repeated attempts at jumping off the London Bridge. The Ghost’s magic fails to work, leading Scrooge to visit the Cratchit’s house too early and catch a glimpse of the miserable Mrs. Bob Cratchit.
“Victorian Holiday” begins at 6 p.m. on both nights with hors d’oeuvres in the Kennedy Center. Guests will be ushered to Hayden Auditorium for the 7:30 p.m. show. On Friday, December 11, there will be a late night show with hors d’oeuvres at 9:45 p.m. and a show at 11 p.m.
“Victorian Holiday” is open to the public. Tickets are $18 per person or $5 for the theatre production only. Call the Office of Special Events at 330.569.5900 to make reservations.
