Malwa ki Lok Dhune - folk tunes from Malwa by Kumar Gandharva, Vasundhara & Kalapini Komakali. In this two-hour concert, Kumarji's wife Vasundharatai and his daughter Kalapini, both classical vocalists, present the richness and diversity of folk songs of the Malwa region.
Kumar Gandharva was the first to make a deep, continuous and systematic search for the roots of raga-based music in the Malwa countryside. The folk melodies of Malwa offer a rare and enchanting musical splendour that is full of vigour and exotic colours. They can be described as 'songs of the soil' ; they have a life force and whispers of the land of Malwa as well as reflect a range of emotions and themes from everyday lives.
