Hindustani Music Recital by Shahid Parvez (Sitar). Supported by Biotor Industries Ltd. in memory of Vasantben Kapadia. The sitar is perhaps the most popular and versatile Indian instrument heard within India and abroad. Among the various playing styles of sitar, the Etawah-Imdadkhani gharana is credited with the introduction of gayaki ang the inimitable musical expression based on vocalism. Grandson of surbahar and sitar maestro Wahid Khan, Shahid Parvez represents the seventh generation of the illustrious gharana and upholds its traditions with great distinction. With an instrument that 'sings', he is ranked amongst the leading sitarists of his generation. The two ragas specially chosen for this recital are- Malhar (a seasonal raga associated with the rains or Varsha Ritu), and Bhairavi, an all-time favourite of music lovers. Shahid Parvez will explore the depths of these evergreen melodies with a veritable treasure of rare compositions, some of them composed by his legendary forefathers.
