IF.COM EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARD NOMINEE 2008
Andrew Maxwell brings his 2012 Fosters Comedy Award nominee show, The Lights Are On, to Hilarity Bites at Darlington Arts Centre in May 2012.
Renowned for his cutting edge comedy, intrepid social commentary and political protagonism, an Andrew Maxwell show is always a must-see for any comedy fan.
Andrew continues to dominate the live and festival circuits, with notable appearances including several sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Amnesty / Channel Four Secret Policeman's Ball (alongside Eddie Izzard, Chevy Chase and Dylan Moran - "Maxwell turned it around... he made us feel part of an event" - The Times), The HBO US Comedy & Arts Festival in Las Vegas (alongside Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock), several sell-out runs in the main house of London’s Soho Theatre, Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival, Glastonbury and the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival.
Andrew has also won and been nominated for several major awards including The Edinburgh Comedy Award, The Time Out Live Award for Best Stand-up, The Loaded Magazine Award for Best Stand-up and The Chortle Award for Best Contribution To The Live Comedy Circuit. He was also recently voted Best Irish Comedian by the public at the Entertainment.ie Awards.
In 2008 Andrew filmed the one-off pilot Conflict Revolution for BBC Northern Ireland. It was released as a DVD alongside a live recording of his 2008 Edinburgh show and reaffirms Andrew’s continued development and exploration of comedy as a way of crossing cultural, social and religious borders.
He released his third live DVD at Christmas 2010 and in 2011 toured Ireland, performed at The Melbourne and Montreal Comedy Festivals and at The Altitude Comedy Festival, of which he is a founder member. He filmed his own show Andrew Maxwell’s 9/11 Conspiracy Road-trip and an extended set for the BBC’s Live At The Apollo and most recently appeared on Wall of Fame, Have I Got News For You, Mock The Week, Celebrity Juice, Argumental and Alexander Armstrong’s Big Ask, and also took part in Comic Relief's 24 Hour Panel People challenge in a special version of Mock The Week.
