Sandy Hook Unit, Area E
Monmouth Beach, New Jersey 07750

http://www.njyp.org/events/hike-sandy-hook-beach

Nestled at the tip of Monmouth County is true New Jersey gem! Almost completely surrounded by water, Sandy Hook is much more than one of New Jersey’s most popular beaches. The combination of beach dunes, holly trees, saltwater marshes, coastal defense ruins, a nineteenth-century fort, and a historic lighthouse make this trip one not to miss! After our adventure, we will optionally go out to eat / socialize.

Note: David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, he will be starting the hike on time.

Specs:
The hike is classified as easy to moderate and should last 4 hours.
The total length of the hike will be about 6.5 miles long and we will walk at an easy pace. The actual mileage may vary depending on people’s interests.
This hike is good for beginners who are in good athletic shape!

What to bring:
Hiking boots and water (required). Hiking boots will help keep the sand out of your feet when hiking as the trail is a mix of hard surface and sandy surface. We will stop for a light lunch / snack at the picnic area so we recommend you bring something to eat.

Inclement Weather:
Heavy precipitation will cancel this hike; drizzle will not. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.

Directions:
Take GSP to exit 117. Keep left onto RT 36. Follow RT 36 for approx 14 miles until you cross the bridge (you will be able to se the ocean at this point). At the light just after the bridge, make a left* onto Hartshorne Drive. ***Note there is construction and traffic patterns have been changed around several times, so you may have to turn differently according to the new or temporary traffic pattern.*** Follow that until you see the sign for the Visitor’s center (where we will meet up). You should park at the far edge of Beach/Lot D just before the visitor’s center. You can park at the edge of the lot which will be very close to the visitor's center.
