Cheesequake State Park offers visitors a chance to see a small piece of many of the ecosystems NJ has to offer. From cedar swamps, to saltwater marshes to mature hardwood forests, you will get to see a little of it all. So, don’t let old man winter keep you inside! Join other fellow NJYPers in getting out, making friends and having fun!
After the hike, we will optionally go out for warm food and hot drinks.
Specs:
The hike is classified as easy to moderate.
The total length of the hike will be approx. 4 miles long and we will walk at a moderate pace. This hike is good for beginners that are ok with navigating muddy spots and doing small uphill and downhill climbs.
The hike should take about 2 hours.
As with all hikes you must be in reasonable athletic shape.
Note: David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike will start on time.
RSVP (to the right) and we will let you know when tix are almost gone, when prices are going up, if there are any changes, etc.
Member Cost:
$5 for the first 10 to buy a ticket
$10 for the next 11-25 to buy a ticket
$20 at the door (so please register online)
Non-Member Cost:
$20 online and at the door
Tickets:
There are a limited number of Tickets for sale. Tickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door. Actual hike is subject to change depending on weather conditions, fallen trees, etc. All sales are final.
Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.
Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike.
What to bring:
Hiking boots are required since there will be muddy spots.
Please bring 2 liters of water as well (yes, it is just as easy to dehydrate in the cold). Please dress in layers that are not made out of cotton. Cotton, when wet, does not dry and can make you feel much colder. Synthetic fiber outdoor wear is always ideal in all weather conditions and all seasons.
Consider bringing a snack as well if you may get hungry while hiking.
Inclement Weather:
Precipitation (rain or snow) will cancel this hike. Also, the forecasted high for the day will have to be above 32 degrees and no standing snow cover on the ground. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.
Directions:
Take GSP South or North Local to exit 120. At the end of the ramp, make a right onto Matawan Rd. At the first light, make a right onto Cliffwood Ave. At the end of that, make a right onto Gordon Rd. Follow Gordon Rd. into the park. After passing by the gate and visitor’s center, look for the first parking lot on the left hand side.
