Mary Van Note has quickly risen in San Francisco’s alternative comedy scene having opened for Todd Barry, Neil Hamburger, Maria Bamford, and Patton Oswalt. Her unique, experimental form of comedy has attracted much attention both on-stage and online. Her popular videos on YouTube have gained thousands of views and now in production are a series of vlogs on Dotcomedy.com, and a web series co-produced by The Independent Film Channel and Nerve.com.

Uphill Both Ways
Sock Puppet Porn. A 300 pound kitty. A giant peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Welcome to the sketch comedy of Uphill Both Ways. Always hyperactive, provocative, and smart, Uphill Both Ways has performed in over a dozen Bay Area venues and at numerous international comedy festivals in NYC, Chicago, L.A., Dallas, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Vancouver and Toronto. Their films have received over a quarter of a million hits on YouTube.com, and have been seen at various short film festivals in five North American cities. They were voted “Best Comedy Act” in SF Weekly’s 2007 Best of San Francisco Reader’s Poll.

Roy Zimmerman has been writing satirical songs for twenty years. He’s shared the stage with George Carlin, Bill Maher, Kate Clinton, Bill Clinton, Dennis Miller and Paul Krassner, and played a series of shows swapping songs with The Pixies’ Frank Black. Zimmerman founded and wrote all the material for the satirical folk quartet The Foremen, who recorded for Warner Reprise throughout the Nineties. As a solo artist, he’s released five albums. A video of Roy’s performance of his song “Creation Science 101” made the front page of YouTube recently and garnered over 750,000 views, and 11,000 comments, many of them coherent.

Mark Silverman is big, goofy jew who writes funny songs. He’s also a San Francisco based comedian whose work has been featured on the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento show and NPR’s Car Talk. He has performed at The Punch Line, Cobb’s Comedy Club, The San Jose Improv, Cafe Du Nord, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and many places in England. He has shared the stage with Zach Galifianakis, Doug Benson, Jonathan Coulton, and many others. He’s got two full-length CDs.

This event is part of SF Sketchfest, which runs January 10 - 27. Highlights of this year's fest include a rare performance by The Kids in the Hall, a "Freaks and Geeks" reunion, and RiffTrax Live (featuring Michael Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy of Mystery Science Theater 3000) at the Castro Theatre.
