After a hiatus of more than a year, Hemispheres reemerges on the Throckmorton stage. Blending African, Middle Eastern, Asian and South American instruments with more traditional Jazz instrumentation, Hemispheres merges myriad elements of Jazz with colors and flavors from around the globe. The group is led by Global Fusion Music recording artist and multi-percussionist Ian Dogole, joined by a stellar cast of collaborators, including two-time Grammy nominee and woodwind virtuoso Paul McCandless (w/Oregon), extraordinary bassist/bamboo flutist Bill Douglass (w/Marian McPartland), piano wizard Frank Martin (w/Sting) and woodwind master Dave Tidball (w/Paula West).
For this special concert, Hemispheres will be joined by internationally acclaimed Gnawan musician, composer and educator Yassir Chadly, who is a gifted musician of many traditional Moroccan instruments, including the oud, gimbri, karkabas, darbuka, fretless banjo, tarija and bender, and is one of the first Moroccan artists to introduce his native music to an American audience.
