Hemispheres is back! After a hiatus of more than a year, Hemispheres reemerges on the Throckmorton stage to escort you on a musical magic carpet ride that will leave you breathless. For this special concert, Hemispheres will be presenting pieces from their last two recordings, Convergence (Jazzheads, New York) and Crossroads (Sunnyside Records, New York), a Grammy-nominated composition by Paul McCandless from the Oregon in Moscow recording, a brand new composition by Ian Dogole (think of flamenco meeting East African thumb piano), an original piece by Dave Tidball that evokes the epic journey along the ancient Silk Road, plus fresh arrangements of compositions by Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk and Bill Lee (Spike’s father.)
Blending African, Middle Eastern, Asian and South American instruments with more traditional Jazz instrumentation, Hemispheres merges myriad elements of Jazz with colors and flavors from around the globe. The group is led by Global Fusion Music recording artist and multi-percussionist Ian Dogole, joined by a stellar cast of collaborators, including two-time Grammy nominee and woodwind virtuoso Paul McCandless (w/Oregon), extraordinary bassist/bamboo flutist Bill Douglass (w/Marian McPartland), piano wizard Frank Martin (w/Sting) and woodwind master Dave Tidball (w/Paula West).
Musicians are: Ian Dogole (udu, cajon, talking drum, hang, kalimbas, cymbals,) Bill Douglass (double bass, Chinese bamboo flutes,) Paul McCandless (soprano/sopranino saxophones, oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, pennywhistle,) Frank Martin (piano) and Dave Tidball (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, clarinet.)
