Too late to attend Mr. Davila's discussion, but I already know that at least one of the beliefs of the Gnostics was addressed by the apostle John in 1 John 4:2,3. Roman Catholics did not invent this perspective of gnosticism. Gnosticism denies the incarnation of God as the Son. In so doing, it denies the true efficacy of the atonement since, if Jesus is not God, He could not atone for all of mankind and we would still be lost in our sins. 1 John 4: 2,3. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge (confess) Jesus is not from God.
