Hell to the Chief/Hero Worship October 11, 2008

As 2008 comes to a close, Bay Area comedians Sammy Wegent and Justin Lamb take on two of the hottest topics of the year; selfish politicians and super powers. Wegent’s election oriented manifesto, Hell To The Chief, and Lamb’s super hero driven sermon, Hero Worship, will run at the historic Purple Onion at 140 Columbus Ave. in San Francisco at 8pm and 10pm every Saturday night from October 11th to November 1st. After a sell-out run earlier this year in San Francisco and stops around the country including New Orleans, Austin, the Gulf Coast Comedy Festival, and the San Francisco Theater Festival, Sammy Wegent is back home and angrier than ever. You see, Wegent has a lot of problems with the president. Not just the current one, but all of them. In his show, Hell To The Chief, Wegent hilariously points out why the American public has never been and will never be completely satisfied with the person running the country. Throughout this mix of stand up, satirical charts and graphs, and audience interaction, Wegent puts forth a plan on how we can actually get the leader we want in November, even if we have to build it, resurrect it, or take it from the animal kingdom. Hey, it can’t be any worse than what we already have. Not only will the show give politically minded audience members a chance to laugh at the electoral process, they can also be a part of it. Anyone who has not registered to vote for the upcoming election will be able to fill out the correct forms after each show. “I hope that everyone that comes to the show is already registered, but if not, we’ll make it impossible for them to leave the theater without doing so. Unless they physically threaten me. That’s just uncalled for,” Wegent said.

Performing with Wegent each night is his good friend and fellow comedian, Justin Lamb in his new show about super heroes and their effect on society, Hero Worship. Faster than a speeding bullet, superheroes have become more popular than ever. But why? San Francisco comedian and lifelong comic book reader Justin Lamb seeks the answer to this question in his new show, Hero Worship. While exploring iconic characters like Superman, Batman, and Spiderman and their connections to the popular psyche, Justin also uncovers their characteristic ties to major world religions. Both funny and intriguing, Hero Worship takes a look at how often the superhero can serve as a fascinating mirror into our own lives. Justin describes the show, saying, "It's not really stand up and it's not really a lecture. It's somewhere in between, like a fun lecture. Or as I call it a fun-cture."

Sammy Wegent performs all over the Bay Area and the country as a comedian. Along with touring Hell To The Chief this year, he has performed at the NBA All Star Jam Session in New Orleans and the MLB All Star FanFest in New York. He was the head writer and director of the critically acclaimed political sketch troupe, Richter Scale. He is the winner of the 2005 Battle of the Bay Comedy Competition at the San Jose Improv along with the title of “The Funniest Person in the Bay Area.” Justin Lamb is a San Francisco-based humorist. He co-hosts the popular alternative comedy show "Something People Like" at the historic Purple Onion and was a finalist in the 2008 Rooster T. Feather's comedy competition. Sammy Wegent and Justin Lamb are both members of the local comedy troupe, SPF 7, and have performed at festivals such as the Chicago Improv Festival, dccomedyfest!, the Toronto International Improv Festival, the San Francisco Improv Festival, and SF Sketchfest. Both of them appeared in 24 Hour Fitness commercials during the Olympics and both of them have seen The Dark Knight more than they care to admit.
