Hell on Reels [Astoria Moving Picture Festival], named in reference to the infamous Hell Gate Bridge spanning NYC's East River, is a forum for the exhibition of exceptional and unique short format moving image works, including documentary, narrative, music video, animation, design and experimental films.

The intention of the festival is to provide a forum for the presentation of a diverse range of moving image works and promote creative dialogue and collaboration among participants within the local Queens community, greater NYC metropolitan area and global film society. The first installment of the Hell on Reels [Summer Series] on May 21, 2006 was a great success and featured a selection of short films from around the globe, from Jackson Heights, Queens to Malmo, Sweden and Chicago, Illinois to Berlin, Germany.
