July 24 through August 22, 2010 at ArtZone 461 Gallery
ArtZone 461 Gallery is pleased to celebrate the start of its third year on Valencia Street with two new solo shows for Keith Gaspari and Heidi McDowell. Brian Tepper's wood sculptures will also be featured throughout the Galleries during these shows.
After featuring her work in this ArtZone's "Introductions" show, Heidi McDowell's first solo appearance opens in the Side Gallery. McDowell's paintings, unlike Gaspari's, are portraits of places - places where and when the sky meets the earth - and their contemporaneous interactions. The sky dominates as the main character. Still, the paintings reveal their origins in masterful digital images.
The raw, unmanipulated, photo-based works, shot with some of the most advanced equipment, depict a heightened sense of realism using an economy of means. The artist confirms this description in saying: "When incorporated into a painting, they [evidence of digital optics effects] further clarify and enhance the experience of specific light conditions, most often intense sunlight, and root the viewer more thoroughly within the space and time of the painting."
Reception for the artists Saturday July 24, 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Gallery Hours: 12-6 pm Wednesday-Sunday, occasional evenings, anytime by appointment
