Sonoma State University is honored to welcome to campus Ms. Heidi Kuhn, founder and CEO of Roots of Peace, whose work to remove the scourge of landmines throughout the world and to bring the land back into productive use for the next generation has changed the lives of countless people worldwide.

Ms. Kuhn will give the first annual Phi Beta Delta Lecture on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 5pm in Schulz 3001. Her talk is entitled, “Turning Minefields into Bountiful Fields.”

With programs past and present in Afghanistan, Angola, Cambodia, Croatia, Iraq, Israel/West Bank, Kyrgyz Republic and Vietnam, Roots of Peace (http://rootsofpeace.org/ ) works not only to eradicate landmines, but also to train farmers, teaching them the skills necessary to restore the land to agricultural use. Roots of Peace’ penny campaign offers children an opportunity to contribute modestly, yet significantly, to support the goals of the organization. This talk has been organized by Phi Beta Delta, the honor society for international scholars on campus.

The talk will include a short video presenting the work of Roots of Peace, as well as a question-and-answer period with Ms. Kuhn. Admission is free of charge.

This talk is sponsored by the School of Social Sciences, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Jean & Charles Schulz Information Center, Associated Students, and Phi Beta Delta.
