‘HEAVEN AND EARTH’ ON STAGE WITH SINFONIA TORONTO
Melodies will soar through ‘Heaven and Earth’ at the next Sinfonia Toronto concert on Friday, December 10, 8 p.m. at Glenn Gould Studio. Orchestra’s Music Director Nurhan Arman will conduct the program featuring brilliant Spanish trumpeter Vicente Campos.
The program will feature two pieces by Canada’s JUNO award-winning composer Marjan Mozetich, his expressive Songline to Heaven and playful Dance to Earth. Mr. Mozetich is one of Canada’s foremost composers, and is Sinfonia Toronto’s 2010-2011 Composer-in-Residence. His compellingly beautiful music has been played by many orchestras, ensembles and soloists.
One of Spain’s finest brass players, trumpeter Vicente Campos has performed with prestigious ensembles throughout Europe. He will be heard in a Classical favourite, Hummel’s cheerful Trumpet Concerto.
To celebrate Robert Schumann’s 200th anniversary, the orchestra will perform his Spanisches Lieberspiele. The program will conclude with Dvorak’s beloved American Quartet in an orchestral arrangement by Nurhan Arman.
Acclaimed as “a world-class ensemble” by Germany’s Russelsheimer Echo, Sinfonia Toronto is one of Canada’s finest chamber orchestras. Its repertoire includes all the major works for string orchestra from baroque to contemporary, and it has premiered many new works. It is based at CBC Glenn Gould Studio, where many of its concerts have been recorded for national broadcast. Other recordings include a CD of works by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich and Khachaturian; a world-premiere recording of the newly discovered J.S. Bach aria ‘Alles mit Gott,’ released by Analekta on iTunes; and the JUNO winner Flanders Field Reflections, a Marquis Classics (EMI) CD of music by John Burge.
Sinfonia Toronto’s Music Director Nurhan Arman has conducted throughout the world to great critical acclaim. His upcoming international engagements include performances with the Moscow Philharmonic, Belgrade Philharmonic and Mexico’s UANL Monterrey Symphony.
