Are we all really so different from each other? The exhibition, “RACE: Are We So Different,” provides a variety of answers to this question throughout the interactive exhibit on display through Jan. 1 at The Health Museum. Developed by the American Anthropological Association in collaboration with the Science Museum of Minnesota, RACE is the first nationally traveling exhibition to tell the stories of race from the biological, cultural and historical points of view. Launched in 2007, this exhibit explores three themes: the everyday experience of race, the contemporary science that is challenging common ideas about race, and the history of this idea in the United States. The exhibit helps visitors understand what race is and what it is not. It gives them the tools to recognize racial ideas and practices in contemporary American life.
Because of the generosity of Fiesta’s sponsorship and the impactful message of the RACE exhibit, The Health Museum will offer the exhibit at no additional charge to the entire Houston community for the remainder of the exhibit run. The exhibit will now be included in the general admission ticket price. The Health Museum, located at 1515 Hermann Drive in the Museum District, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays: noon to 5 p.m. Adult tickets are $8 and children’s tickets are $6, but members get in free. Contact the Health Museum at (713) 521-1515 or visit www.thehealthmuseum.org.
