Due to the overwhelming success of their spring event, WABF will be holding a Fall Flea Market and Listener Appreciation Party over an expanded three days from Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2nd, from 8am to 2pm. The Haven will be present on Friday and Saturday from 11am to 2pm at The 181 Market and Mini Storage location in Fairhope (corner of Highway 181 and Co. Road 32) with an on-site adoption event showcasing many of their available dogs and cats. The event includes a live broadcast with WABF 1220 AM Swap Shop hosts Lori DuBose and Mark, door prizes, and over eighty flea market vendors. "This event is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for listening and/or participating in the show”, says Lori, “and gives us an opportunity to put faces with names and meet the regulars.” Food and refreshments will also be available for purchase, and live music from popular musicians will be featured.
Because this event is close to October 4, the day to commemorate St. Francis of Assisi’s love for animals, a special Blessing of the Animals will be conducted by Deacon George Yeend of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope at 1pm on Saturday, October 1. A dedicated tent will be set up at the WABF event and the public is invited to bring their pets to this special blessing.
WABF and Lori DuBose have, for many years, been a great voice for the Haven, informing the public on what's happening at the Haven, providing public service announcements for the events, and encouraging their listening public to help the Haven. "This is a way for us to show are appreciation to WABF for all they have done for us; we are delighted to be part of this event," says executive director Mike Graham.
