ABOUT HOTEL HAVANA
Hotel Havana was built in 1914 by Edward Franz Melcher, a successful grocer and the son of a German immigrant, and worked with Architect Arthur J. Herrmann, of San Antonio, to design the elegant residence hotel for Melcher’s grocery buyers. Melcher purchased the tract of riverfront property in 1909 for $7,500. Throughout the years, the hotel changed hands and at one point became a vacant building until Theresa Greer, of San Antonio, reopened it as the Havana Riverwalk Inn in 1997. It is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Each of the 16 queen and 11 king rooms is equipped with Italian 1950s-inspired Smeg refrigerators stocked with an array of artisanal pan-Latin snacks and spirits. The Havana’s breakfast fare - delivered to guest rooms picnic-style - includes freshly-baked traditional Mexican pan dulces served with cinnamon-butter and homemade mango jelly, as well as the Havana’s signature Cuban-style coffee.
