This is our second Armed Forces Day and follows two Veterans Days in
2007 + 8. The organization is a collaboration between Harpenden Royal British Legion, Harpenden Town Council and Representatives of
Harpenden Army, Air, Sea Cadets and Police Cadets.
A major feature of AFD is an inter-services Cadet sports competition.
The 3 forces cadet units plus the police cadets are enthusiastically behind this. The sports will be timed runs over a 100m inflatable assault course, a climbing wall, tug of war, tent erection and drill display.
The assault course and climbing wall will also be open to the public - for FREE. The judges of the drill display will be the President and Secretary of the RBL.
The Event will be a competition and a prize - donated by local businesses will be awarded.
We expect to have displays from the Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, PTSD Resolution, as well as displays for the 3 forces Cadet Units and the Police.
The whole event is free and open to the public and takes place on the Public
Common in the centre of the town. It is on a Sunday and the popular Monthly Sunday Market will be open in the High Street.
The event will begin with a speech by the Town's Mayor and a Parade of
Veterans down the High Street.
