The first Monday of every month for the last 10+ years, the Hard Rock Miners can be found hosting their world famous Singalong at Vancouver's Railway Club. Wikipedia calls it "rock and roll reverse karaoke," with the band sitting at the tables playing the tunes while the packed bar around them sings the lyrics (and screams out page numbers of their requests, resulting in a near total anarchy that is a large part of the fun).
Songbooks provided include hits by Johnny Cash, The Pogues, AC/DC, Tom Jones, Cheap Trick, Devo, Beastie Boys, Nancy Sinatra, Rolling Stones and many more alternapunk classics, all played to the hilt by a rotating group of arguably the best and funniest musicians in town (and a huge cast of visiting friends). Besides great sound from acoustic guitars, bass and drums, if you've never heard your favourite rock anthems played on accordion, mandolin, musical saw and harmonium, you ain't heard nothin' yet.
Watch for a future segment on the Singalong on an upcoming episode of CBC's "Living Vancouver" (www.cbc.ca/livingvancouver)!
