Our March 2009 meetup will be held on Saturday, March 14 at Hammonasset State Park in Madison.
Mike will meet the group at 4pm at the Meig's Point Nature Center building. To get to the nature center, enter the park and follow the signs for Meig's Point. The nature center will be on your left and there is a large parking lot just past the building.
We plan on staying until the park closes at sunset, which is at 6:57pm. Hammonasset is well known by residents throughout the state as a great spot for sunsets. Photographing the sunset has not been a problem in the past (even in the off-season), as long as we don't stick around much after the sun goes down. Mike will confirm this with the staff on duty that day so there are no surprises. They do lock the gates at closing.
I am enrolled in a class in Wethersfield which runs a few weekends in March, including the 14-15. I'll head to Hammonasset as soon as the class is over. Unless I get delayed somewhere along the way, I should be able to join the group just in time for the "golden hour" of light before sunset.
Maura pointed out the full moon on the 14th. Mike wants to scout out Hammonasset this coming weekend since we don't spend much time there ourselves. We'll see if we can find a nearby spot for some night shooting for anyone who is interested.

Pilgrim on this road
I would love to join this shooting but have aging parent obligations all weekend. However, if you are interested in going out to dinner afterward, check out Lenny & Joe's Fishtales on Route One. Take a right when you leave the park and the restaurant is maybe half a mile down on your left. Good seafood (mostly fried) but my favorite is their grilled salmon. It can get packed, especially in the summer!
