Hal Holbrook comes to Sacramento's Community Center Theater on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 8:00pm in Mark Twain Tonight! – his acclaimed one-man show which celebrates the humor, satirical wit, and timeless observations of Mark Twain.
Tickets are available at the Convention Center Theater Box Office (1301 L Street), Tickets.com, and 916.808.5181. Ticket prices are $30-$60 plus facility and service fee. Student tickets available for $15 with I.D. at the box office.
Hal Holbrook has been portraying Mark Twain on stage for over 50 years and has performed more than 2,000 shows, including an off-Broadway run in 1959, a Broadway run in 1966 (that earned him a Tony), and a 1967 prime time version on CBS that earned him an Emmy nomination. Holbrook has over 15 hours of Twain material memorized. When he goes on stage, he has an idea of what he is going to perform, but will often change his plans on stage, so he never performs the same show twice. He will often find relevant Twain passages to remark on current world events.
He also enjoys reading to audiences on stage and will often read from Twain’s classic novel Huckleberry Finn and from others. As Holbrook says, “I like to make people
think, and that’s what Mark Twain did. He forces you to think. That’s the greatest gift he’s ever given me, and I love sharing that gift with audiences.”
Hal Holbrook has done 50 television movies and mini-series, been nominated for twelve Emmys and won five. His film career began with The Group in 1966. Since then
he has appeared in over 30 films including Midway, All the President’s Men, Julia, Wall Street and Men of Honor. Since 1984, he has been married to singer and actress
Dixie Carter.
