H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths (www.health4youths.org), a non profit organization, will host a community service day and end of the year event at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday August 23, 2010. A group of our volunteers from 18 years and older will work with the gardener at the park on the greeting gardens at the main entrance of Van Cortlandt Park. The task will include removing debris, leaves, weeds and adding mulch as well as wood chips to help restore and reduce future weeds.
Volunteers will be orientated on why this is important and the proper way of doing it. The group will meet at the base of the #1 train station steps and walk to the site. Meeting time will be @ 9:00am and will work till 1:00pm.
End of Summer Student Celebration
Following community service work HEALTH for Youths students will be able to sit back for some fun in the sun in the picnic area of Van Cortlandt Park. They can celebrate all the hard work they put into their summer internships and community service projects these past two months. There will a barbecue with lots of food courtesy of HEALTHY. The event will take place from 1pm to 4pm.
We will end the day with a donor push for our organization and our proposed dog park project in Ewen Park, in the Bronx. http://www.health4youths.org/ewenparkdogrun.html.
H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths (“H.E.A.L.T.H.Y”) assists at-risk youth; combats community deterioration and juvenile delinquency; and improves the quality of education, health care and life-skills training for underserved adolescents and young adults in their late teens to early 20s.
H.E.A.L.T.H.Y collaborates with non-profits, schools and other organizations to provide workshops in physical/mental health, social/cultural education and life-skills.
H.E.A.L.T.H.Y ran a summer internship program in 2010 for students interested in various industries. The internship program will include community outreach, social/cultural activities, networking opportunities, healthcare education and other life-skills training. The workshops are provided to underserved youth from low-income areas and/or underserved communities in New York. These programs and internships will encourage the overall growth of youths.
Established in July 2009, the organization has helped several students since its inception. We also have a scholarship drive with a deadline of August 31, 2010 for donations.
