The tercentenary celebration of Gur-ta-Gaddi (Gur ta Gaddi) is of great relevance to the Sikh Community. It involves the remembrance of the 300th (Tri Shatabdi) year of the consecration of Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh bible) as the last guru of Sikh community by Guru Gobind Singhji.

The government has agreed to start a special flight from New Delhi to Nanded from October 29 in view of the ongoing tercentenary celebrations of 'Gurta Gaddi', Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal said here today.
The AirIndia flight will be operated on a temporary basis from October 29 to November 4 for the benefit of devotees visiting the historic Sikh pilgrimage centre at Nanded, a town in Maharashtra.

HYDERABAD: Thanks to the dedication of the Sikh Dharma International (SDI), the perpetual Guru of the Sikhs, Sri Guru Granth Sahibji, is now available in Spanish.
The translation of the Holy Book was presented to Sikh Jathedars (heads) of different Takhats (temporal seats) at the Hazur Sahib Nanded where the tercentenary of the Guru Gaddi (consecration) of the Granth Sahibji is being celebrated on a mammoth scale.
The Jathedars appreciated the perseverance of the SDI in getting the Granth Sahib translated. Work began as far back as 1975 and required painstaking efforts as the suggestions of a wide cross-section of religious heads and scholars were carefully incorporated.

WASHINGTON: Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has extended his greetings to the Sikh community in America on the tercentenary celebrations of consecration of the Guru Granth Sahib.
In a letter addressed to the American Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Obama also thanked the Sikhs for their efforts to promote cultural diversity.
"Throughout the world, Sikh communities are celebrating the tercentenary of the Guruship of Sri Guru Granth Sahib," Senator Obama said. The message has been posted in media websites.
"Sri Guru Granth Sahib is considered the universal spiritual leader and guiding light for the Sikh community. In 1708, Guru Gobind Singh officially ordained Guru Granth Sahib as the final and perpetual Guru of Sikhs. This worldwide celebration will commemorate the 300 years of consecration of Guru Granth Sahib and the anniversary of the accession of Guru Gobind Singh," he wrote.
On the occasion, both Sikh and non-Sikh community members will gather to promote and honour the contributions that the Gurus have made to the Sikh community, he added.
"I would like to extend my congratulations to the American Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee and thank them for their ongoing efforts to promote cultural diversity and awareness on behalf of the Sikh community," he said.
