Guns & Hoses is modeled after a fundraiser in St. Louis that pits police officers against firefighters in a series of three-round bouts. Each bout will last one minute. Officer Phernetton came up with the idea as a way to raise money for his project to build and fund a group home for people with Prader-Willi syndrome. Phernetton’s 12 year-old daughter, Mickey, was born with the genetic disorder, which causes sufferers to feel hungry constantly.
He joined forces with fellow officers Billy Bolin and Paul Kirby using some of the proceeds to support the Evansville playground Kid’s Kingdom that they developed.
Half of the ticket sales and sponsorships will go toward the group home with the other half going toward an undecided charity. That recipient will rotate each year with a board of three firefighters and three police officers determining who gets it.
