Guitar Duel: An Evening of Classical Guitar with Jard and Fred July 31, 2009

Two established Bay Area musicians, Jard Davis and Fred Boette show off their chops in a varied program ranging from Bach to Villa Lobos.

About the Artists:
Jard Davis began playing guitar at thirteen years old. Although he was always intrigued by classical music and studied classical violin music on the electric guitar, Jard didn't begin studying "classical guitar" until his first semester of college. He won first prize in the 1997 Florida Mars Music electric guitar competition. Mr. Davis received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Central Florida as well as a Masters of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. While at the University of Central Florida he studied with Dr. Eladio Scharron and won the first prize in the University of Central Florida Concerto Competition. At the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Jard studied privately with David Tanenbaum and Dusan Bogdanovic. This coming fall, Jard will be attending the Koblenz International Guitar Academy in Koblenz Germany. There he will study with Dale Kavanagh to obtain a post-graduate diploma. Jard plays on a spruce top guitar built in 2004 by the late Paulino Bernabe of Madrid.

Fred Boette received his first guitar from his dad when he was 11 years old. A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Fred attended the Pinelles County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School with a concentration in Music Performance under the renowned classical guitarist Joseph Braccio. One of the most thrilling performances for Fred was in 1994, when he played "Silent Night" on CBS's nationally televised Christmas Mass service in Pasadena, FL. Boette later earned his Bachelor of Music Studies from Valdosta State University. He has studied with Bruce Holzman and Nephtali Santiago and also taken extended master classes with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet as well as Nigel North. More info: www.guitarfred.com
