The Koret Taube Center for Jewish Peoplehood at the Osher Marin JCC presents Shifting Jewish Identities with Professor Steven Cohen, a renowned demographer and research professor of Jewish Social Policy at Hebrew Union College and Director of The Berman Jewish Policy Archive at NYU Wagner. Cohen is brilliant, provocative and funny as he will present shocking results from cutting-edge research on Jewish identity. His lecture will also explore the emerging forms of Jewish community and identity among younger Jews in the United States.
Cohen has served as a professor at The Melton Centre for Jewish Education; The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Queens College, CUNY. He has also been a visiting professor at Brandeis University, Yale University, and the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Prior to the lecture, there will be a free opening reception for Contemporary Israeli Art: History on Canvas from the collection of Michelle Schwartz, owner of Gallery Squared in San Francisco. Schwartz will speak about "Exploring modern Israel's history through a broad selection of 20th century art." The art exhibition will include a rare selection of original drawings by Romanian/Israeli artist Marcel Janco who fled the Nazis and was one of the founders of the post-WWII Dadaist movement, Ein Hod artists' community and New Horizon movement. Guests from all backgrounds are invited to attend.
