More than 15 years after Woodstock served as the backdrop to major motion picture history in the 1993 comedy classic “Groundhog Day,” history will repeat itself once again! As part of Woodstock’s annual Groundhog Days Festival, the Woodstock Theatre will be presenting three FREE screenings of “Groundhog Day,” rated PG, on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The Woodstock Theatre is located at 209 Main Street.
Starring Bill Murray, this classic comedy tells the tale of a newsman who wakes up everyday realizing it’s the same day – Groundhog Day. Murray falls in love with his beautiful producer, played by Andie MacDowell, and wonders if the day will ever end so that they can move on together. Much of the movie was filmed in the town of Woodstock, IL, and the Woodstock Theatre is showcased as the Alpine in this hit film.
“Every year we look forward to screening “Groundhog Day” at the Woodstock,” explains Shirley Johnson, owner of Classic Cinemas. “It’s very special to see the community come together each year to celebrate such a unique town like Woodstock!“
