Let the sun shine in: the GreenTOpia book launch goes solar
On Sunday, November 11, celebrate the publication of a book so green, you'll think it was made in Ireland. GreenTOpia: Towards a Sustainable Toronto, the third book in the uTOpia series, launches with a This Is Not A Reading Series event at Toronto's Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West).
Doors open at 2:00 p.m. and the day kicks off at 3:00 p.m. with two interactive panel discussions on environmentalism in the GTA moderated by Misha Glouberman and featuring GreenTOpia contributors Eduardo Sousa, Lorraine Johnson, Todd Irvine, Wayne Reeves, Keith Stewart, Eva Ligeti, Graeme Stewart, Cathy Nasmith, John Lorinc and Bert Archer. The launch will also feature a freecycle swap table. So, in addition to your opinions and ideas, you're encouraged to bring an unwanted item to trade for something you do want. The entire afternoon's activities at the Gladstone will be solar-powered, courtesy of our friends at Solera Energies. Admission is $5, or free with book purchase.
After the panels conclude at 6:00 p.m., join Shawn Micallef ([murmur], Spacing) for a 'Psychogeographic Wander' from the Gladstone to Sneaky Dee's. At 8:30 p.m., Sneaky Dee's ( 431 College St.) will host the evening portion of the GreenTOpia launch: an edition of the Wavelength Music Series entitled 'Remember Toronto.' The Toronto bands of the today will perform covers of the best Toronto songs of all time. The evening's line-up features The Bicycles, The Two Koreas, The Blankket, the Hip-Hop Karaoke Crew, Etaoin Shrdlu and more. Admission to the Wavelength Music Series is pay-what-you-can.
