Moore County community members are invited to learn about sustainable transportation and share their green ideas at the next Sustainable Sandhills Moore County Community Action Team at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 24. This fun community meeting will take place at Sandhills Community College, Dempsey Student Center, Clement Dining Hall at 3395 Airport Rd in Pinehurst, NC.
Rich Cregar, sustainable transportation expert, will present, “Carbon Legislation, What You Need To Know.” Cregar is a Wake Tech automotive instructor and leading expert on "green" automotive technologies. He was one of six selected to be a GlaxoSmithKline Faculty Fellow for the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) in 2009. The program supports faculty at North Carolina's colleges and universities in working on public policy issues that affect the state. He is the first Wake Tech instructor to be appointed to the Institute in its five-year history. Cregar began teaching at Wake Tech in 2006. Prior to that, he served as national instructor and research associate at the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium at West Virginia University. In addition to full-time teaching, Cregar develops and presents workshops in the production of Biodiesel, Clean Diesel Technology, Vehicle Emissions Systems, Hybrid Electric Drive Systems, and Electric Vehicles. Cregar has also written dozens of articles about renewable fuels, advanced drive systems, and workforce development for "green" transportation. Cregar is an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Environmental Educators of North Carolina. He serves on the President's Advisory Committee on Renewable Fuels at Shaw University and is a Consultant and Technical Trainer for Miles Electric Vehicles, LLC, of Santa Monica, CA.
Sustainable Sandhills Community Action Team meetings are a forum for people with green ideas to form networks, identify projects and take positive action to improve their communities. Current projects include: greening local schools, creating new trails for recreation, weatherizing low income housing, recycling, urban farming and more!
