The ReDirect Guide proudly announces the 2nd annual Green Sprouts Organic Baby and Family Festival on September 22nd. Green Sprouts is a community-inspired event that celebrates natural and healthy options for expecting parents and young families. The one-day festival will promote lead prevention and awareness, eco-friendly products, community-connecting ideas, natural & healthy options for birthing and raising children and feature plenty of fun family activities. There will be exhibits from local green businesses, hands-on interactive workshops, and seminars focused on holistic pregnancy & childbirth, health & fitness, non-toxic nursery & remodeling ideas, and early education.
A wide array of lead poisoning awareness and prevention resources will be available to the general public.
· Portland Development Commission’s Portland Regional Lead Hazard Control Program will provide Free Lead Screening of Toys and Household Items. Limit 5 per family. Parents can test everyday household products and toys for lead contamination as well as learn about other lead poisoning and prevention tips.
· Josiah Hill III Clinic will conduct Free Lead Tests for children, pregnant mothers and families. With a simple finger-prick, results can be provided on-site. They will also provide local resources to identify and remove and reduce sources of lead around the home.
· Community Energy Project will also give a Lead Poisoning Prevention Workshop to discover common sources of lead, its effects on the body, prevention methods & resources. A free lead prevention kit ($30 value) will be supplied as a free gift to attendees. Quantities limited.
Green Sprouts will be held at Peninsula Park, a close-in North Portland Park that features attractions for all ages, including a large playground, a beautiful rose garden and an inviting outdoor pavilion. Families attending this event can enjoy local organic fare, live music and entertainment, a maternity and children’s clothing swap, arts & crafts, and other child-parent activities. For more information, seminar schedules and a full list of activities, please visit www.GreenSproutsFest.com. A three-dollar suggested donation at the door will benefit the Oregon Environmental Council’s Tiny Footprints and Eco-Healthy Childcare program, which provides educational resources to create healthier, more eco-friendly families.
