Our keynote speaker will be Joe Anglin, Vice Chair of the Lavesta Group, The Lavesta Area Group was successful in defeating the proposal to build the 500 kv power line in Alberta, despite dirty tricks, private investigators and an attempted media blackout. According to the EUB, the decision is equivelent to granting a mistrial and, according to EUB Chairman Dr. William Tilleman, "Mistakes have been made on this file, and I believe the only way to re-establish public confidence is to go back to square one on this process."
The victory in the battle over the 500 kv powerline is overshadowed by the imminent passage of provincial legislation bill C-46, a bill that will, amongst other things, enable the EUB to:
make an order or decision ". . . without giving public notice and without holding a hearing.
prevent landowners and consumers from making verbal representations even if a hearing is held.
restrict the ability of landowners to hire outside legal counsel when intervening in regulatory hearings.
If such a bill is passed, victories such as the one attained over the 500 kv power line will become a thing of the past. "If you're a property owner, if you believe in the public participation into corporate projects that impact our air, water and land, then you need to help us stop this bill." says Anglin.
Come out to our fundraiser and hear what Joe has to say and, if you're convinced, sign on to help us fight bill C-46.
