Enlivening Chicago’s West Town for a second consecutive summer is Green Music Fest, Saturday, June 26th through Sunday, June 27th. Like last year, GMF will be produced in the most eco-friendly way possible by featuring biodegradable plastic cups, recycling options, biodiesel generators, and much more.

Green Family Fun Fest
Benefiting and organized by Columbia College Center for Community Art Partnerships (CCAP - www.columbia.edu/ccap), the Green Family Fun Fest will provide plenty of fun-filled children’s activities throughout the weekend, including: recycled arts & crafts, DIY musical instruments, organic cooking demos/classes, clowning, face-painting, puppetry, drumming and dance demos, student performances and live children’s music.
Eco-Friendly Vendor Village
With support from the City of Chicago’s Center for Green Technology, the Eco-Friendly Vendor Village is where thousands of community members and businesses that care for the environment unite at GMF to discover new ways to go green. Here, green vendors will preview, demonstrate and/or sell everything from solar-powered techie devices to fresh organic food to unique products made from recycled materials to the HVAC Mobile Green Classroom – a touring trailer that provides information about the latest green technologies being used in mechanical service and construction (http://www.ua.org/green.asp). The Eco-Friendly Vendor Village is also home to some “non-green” vendors as well as GMF sponsors.
Transportation Options
GMF organizers encourage patrons to use free bike parking. The location is also convenient to public CTA routes.
Chicago Center for Green Technology
The Chicago Center for Green Technology is the first rehabilitated municipal building in the nation to receive the LEED™ Platinum rating by the U.S. Green Building Council. Mayor Richard M. Daley dedicated the building in 2002 and it has gone on to become a national model for sustainable design and technology. The Center serves as the most comprehensive green design educational resource in the Midwest. They promote and advance sustainable homes, workplaces and communities to enhance the quality of urban life. The Center works to facilitate this through educational programming and training, research and demonstration and by acting as a resource network.
