Green Meadow Waldorf School has been a nurturing environment for several musicians who have gone on to study at renowned musical institutions such as Julliard and Bard, then continue into professional symphonies.
Joining the ranks is Green Meadow Waldorf School senior, Nicholas Frei, who before graduating high school, is a second-year member of the New York Youth Symphony and has already performed in Carnegie Hall.
Frei is one of four finalists who have been chosen out of 39 applicants to receive a Music Scholarship Award given out by the Morning Music Club of Rockland County. Contestants will present a 12-15 minute performance on May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church demonstrating the range of their ability.
Frei’s audition performance elicited such comments by the judges as: “musically perfect,” “astonishing,” “beautiful tone” and “fabulous control.”
Frei will be playing selected works from Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn.
“We are all very proud of Nicholas’ accomplishments,” said Vicki Larson, Director of Communications and Marketing at Green Meadow Waldorf School. “Throughout his career at Green Meadow, Nicholas has demonstrated tremendous passion and discipline and, like all of our students, has studied with dedicated and talented musicians.”
The public and media are invited to attend the scholarship recital.
