Emerging from Northern California's underground punk scene, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool formed Green Day in 1989, building a cult following during the early '90s with albums like '1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour' and 'Kerplunk.' Their major-label debut, 'Dookie' was released in the spring of 1994, yielding a hit with 'Longview.' Superstars by the the time the singles 'When I Come Around' and 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)' became entrenched as Top-40 fare, their punk revivalist image faded a bit, giving the band time to retreat. They reemerged in 2004 with the Grammy-winning 'American Idiot,' which spawned a Tony-winning Broadway musical. Now, Green Day returns to support their upcoming trilogy of albums 'Green Day !Uno!,' 'Green Day !Dos!' and 'Green Day !Tre!.' The albums are the follow-up to the Grammy-winning '21st Century Breakdown.'
