Greece Does Grease: T-Birds, Togas and Titillation!

From the co-producers of last year’s smash, SHINE: A Burlesque Musical, comes Greece Does Grease an epic, mainstage burlesque show at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island this October.

Inspired by the burlesque musicals of the 19th century when women shocked the world by appearing as scantily clad sexual aggressors in satires of the popular theatre of the time, Greece Does Grease tells the ancient story of the seasons through parodies of the music of Grease and Grease 2.

Persephone had a normal life, her days and nights filled with war, orgies and drunken revelry. It was enough for the other gods on Olympus but not for her, she wanted more: something more dangerous. She didn’t expect to find it singing and dancing in a glade with the Nymphs but it finds her and she is spirited away to the Underworld by Hades. Then all hell breaks loose.

Created by Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society, Greece Does Grease is an original feature production filled with bawdy humour, heart stopping dance and wickedly fun live music.
Written by and featuring international burlesque star Melody Mangler, voted ‘Best Local Dancer’ in the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver (2009) and ‘Burlesque Top 50 of 2009’ by 21st Century Burlesque (London, UK). She also recently competed for the title of ‘Reigning Queen of Burlesque’ at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas and will be a featured performer at this year’s New York Burlesque Festival. Greece Does Grease is led by Diva Gould, Screaming Chicken’s most experienced director and choreographed by the award winning April O’Peel.

The diverse and talented cast comes from backgrounds ranging from traditional theatre to burlesque and cabaret and include top performers such as Cass King (star of SHINE and The Wetspots) alongside some of burlesque’s newest up and coming stars. The show features an all-star band whose members have played with The Hard Rock Miners, Roots Round Up, The Highballs, The Real MacKenzies and Chix Diggit.
