Nietzsche is one of the most insightful, but also one of the most provocative, thinkers of the modern period. He is certainly one of the most controversial, given his ideas concerning the will, power, the 'superman', the 'overcoming' of metaphysics, the 'eternal recurrence of the same', the death of God and the transvaluation of moral codes. Reading him is almost never dull! We examine carefully and rigorously a number of these ideas, his uses (and abuses) of rhetoric and polemic, irony and dithyramb, and assess critically his manifold contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, aesthetics and ethics.
