The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, under the leadership of Kent Tritle, Director of Music and Organist, is pleased to announce that the first 2012 concert from Great Music in a Great Space will take place on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 PM at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.
Still in his inaugural year, Mr. Tritle will conduct the renowned Cathedral Choirs; Ray Nagem, organist; and Arthur Fiacco, cellist, in performances of Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater and Bach’s Jesu meine Freude.
Great Music in a Great Space is the re-visioning of a legendary Cathedral concert series from the 1980s. The 21st century Great Music in a Great Space will bring in new voices, voices new to the Cathedral, varied instrumentation and diverse cultural and musical influences.
In addition to serving as Director of Cathedral Music, Tritle also acts as organist of the New York Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra and is one of the country’s most revered choral conductors and organ virtuosos.
