Great Big Sea hails from Newfoundland, whose sea chanty tradition infuses the band's contemporary sound. Their music is an energetic combination of Celtic music, rock 'n' roll & sing-along folk, while remaining unmistakably traditional.

Truly a great evening out with a wonderfully entertaining band. The sound at the HOB sucked royally though - it was waaaaay too bassy!

Great Big Sea obviously enjoyed themselves on stage, singing songs from ther 15 year history and introducing several new ones to the fans gathered at the venue.

The new CD, Fortune's Favour, is due out in June with a mix of pop and trad songs on it. Séan McCann sang an impressive "Rocks of Merasheen" for the first time in public and wowed the crowd. Alan Doyle may have shocked some with his throaty, electric rock song, "Oh Yeah!" but the audience seemed to enjoy it. Thse b'ys are comfortable no matter what genre they're singing and performed shanties as easily and as well as electric-guitar-accompanied rock songs.

Always a treat to see them perform, they are the best at audience participation and did not slouch in that department tonight, either. Sing-a-longs and stories kept everyone wanting more.
