All over Massachusetts, grassland birds are having a tough time as their habitats dwindle. But there is good news -- some birds are using the open space created by our garbage dumps. Endangered grasshopper sparrows have been nesting on Worcester's Greenwood St. landfill since 1994. Come tour the windy knoll at the landfill's summit and learn how it is being reshaped and restored to preserve the habitat that these birds need. Registration is required. Call 508-753-6087 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=794-BM10SU1 for more information.
