Merle Yenawine was an ordinary country man with an extraordinary talent for carving and tinkering. During his years of retirement, he created over 60 hand-carved scenes which he proudly displayed in his his home for many years. He sold some of the dioramas to the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation, which were later acquired by the Carnegie Center. The animated, hand-carved dioramas which Merle Yenawine created depict scenes from the Pilgrims, to the pioneers and the events and places he remembered from his childhood in Georgetown, Indiana.
