Whether you first encounter the driving rhythms and raw power on your car radio, in a concert hall or as the inescapable background music to NFL football, TV commercials and movies, one thing is for certain... you never forget 'Carmina Burana.' Its driving rhythms and powerful melodies are primal. Almost physical. This is music that instantly connects. Orff's powerful 'Carmina Burana' features nearly 300 musicians on stage, including the 125-voice Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus (Pearl Shangkuan, Director), the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus (Sean Ivory, Director) plus three vocal soloists (soprano, tenor and baritone). The work is based on 24 medieval poems with the subject of love, lust, the pleasures of drinking and the heightened moods evoked by springtime. The music ranges from a simple chant to near rock-inspired rhythmic sections, truly offering something for everyone.
