Grand Opening of Forest Hill Park Lake, Dedication of the Harvey Memorial Bridge and the First Annual Forest Hill Yacht Club Regatta
The Grand Opening Ceremonies of the Forest Hill Park Lake on Saturday, May 22, will feature the Honorable Dwight C. Jones, Mayor of Richmond and the Honorable Kathy C. Graziano, President of Richmond City Council. Since the lake’s creation in the 1800s, it has served as a quarry pond for the Holden Rhodes granite quarries, a boating pond and ice-skating rink, an amusement park swimming pool, and, more recently, a wildlife habitat. The lake has long been a natural attraction for park visitors. Now, after years of being filled in by erosion carried downstream from Reedy Creek, the lake has been dredged and restored to its original 3-acre expanse. Following extensive dredging and landscaping to repair damage from several hurricanes, the lake will again be an attractive destination in historic Forest Hill Park.
