The Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado and St. Martin's Chamber Choir join forces for the first time this February in Gradus ad Parnassum, a concert surrounding one of the most influential, but little remembered, musicians of the late Baroque -- Johann Josef Fux (1660-1741). The concert includes works by those who influenced Fux (Palestrina and Corelli), and one composer whom Fux influenced (J. S. Bach), as well as Fux himself. The regional premiere of Fux's monumental "Kaiserrequiem" ("Imperial Requiem") is the centerpiece of the concert -- a work written for Austrian royalty, and the official requiem of the Hapsburg family for a century after its penning in 1719.
The concert will be performed three times: Friday, February 15th at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave, Cherry Hills Village, Saturday, February 16th at First United Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce St., Boulder, and Sunday, February 17th at St. Elizabeth's Church, 1060 St. Francis Way, Auraria Campus, Denver. Tickets are $20 adult, $17 senior, $5 student, and all concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information call 303-298-1970 or email info@StMartinsChamberChoir.org.
