This forum will highlight the relationship between the work of some New York City-based poets, their personal and collective vision of the City, the period they wrote about, and the social history unfolding at the time. New York poets from different eras will read their work and scholars will comment on the historical, cultural and literary content.

Carmen Boullosa, novelist; poet; playwright; Distinguished Lecturer of Foreign Languages, City College, CUNY; David Levering Lewis, Professor, Julius Silver University; Professor of History, New York University; has twice won the Pulitzer Prize for biography, for W.E.B. Du Bois: Biography of a Race, 1868-1919 and for W.E.B. Du Bois: The Fight for Equality and the American Century, 1919-1963; Elisa New, Professor of English, Harvard University; author,The Line's Eye: Poetic Experience, American Sight. Bob Holman, poet; dubbed a member of the "Poetry Pantheon" by the New York Times Magazine; Producer, The United States of Poetry for PBS.
