A world music rock-star, the Sarajevo-born Goran Bregovic is best known in North America for his compositions written for the films of director Emir Kusturica including Underground (1995) and Time of the Gypsies (1988). In honor of his U.S. “Champagne Tour,” Bregovic will celebrate the music of Europe’s Gypsy tradition when he brings his 20-piece Wedding and Funeral Orchestra to Houston for the first time. Bregovic’s music marries the dance tunes of a raucous gypsy brass band with traditional Eastern European choral music, all with a rock and roll edge. Bregovic has been a prominent figure in European music for more than three decades and is described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “both the catalyst and ringmaster for a musical spectacle unlike anything else on North American stages.”
